“You Are Your Most Valuable Currency”: Inside Baltimore’s Boldest Creative Studio

Staff

Tucked into the heart of Baltimore’s Station North Arts & Entertainment District—just a short walk from Penn Station—is Currency Studio, a hybrid gallery and retail space created by designer Michael Haskins Jr. in 2007. What began as a simple line of t-shirts has since evolved into a full-fledged lifestyle brand offering a thoughtful collection of clothing, accessories, and experimental art.

Driven by a love for art and architecture, Haskins, along with his wife and creative partner Erica Lee Page, has shaped Currency Studio into more than just a brand—it’s a multidimensional platform for creative expression. “The vision,” he says, “is to have a creative outlet that allows us to be creative in any way we choose to be.”

The studio’s guiding mantra, “You Are Your Most Valuable Currency,” speaks to the deeper philosophy behind the brand—one that values individuality, self-worth, and creativity as essential currencies in a fast-moving world.

At 18 W North Ave, visitors are greeted by more than racks of limited-edition apparel. Currency Studio also functions as a gallery, currently exhibiting local artwork ranging from paintings and sculpture to experimental furniture—many of which are created by artists the brand plans to collaborate with in the future. On Saturdays, you can also stop by for a handcrafted matcha under their lifestyle extension, Matcha Hand.

Whether you’re there to browse the latest collection, sip something green, or take in some local art, Currency Studio offers a one-of-a-kind Baltimore experience that blends fashion, culture, and community.
