As Wake n Bake with BeMo and Lady of the House enters its fourth season, the dynamic duo behind this increasingly popular podcast continues taking seemingly mundane and unproductive conversations unfolding on social media to the next level.

Whether they’re weighing in on Eboni K. Williams’ treatise about the bus driver or explaining how Rachel Dolezal challenged notions about race, Bryant “BeMo” Brown and Emani “Lady of the House” Curry have set themselves apart from other early morning programs filled with laughs and gossip.

And they’ve done so while sparking their first blunt of the day.

For BeMo, it’s become less about challenging the status quo and meeting Black people where they are to help them understand the deeper meaning behind what they’re finding popular now. One example he gleefully pointed out involves four-year-old TikTok rap phenom VanVan, who he said is walking in the footsteps of Bow Wow and Kriss Kross with elementary raps influenced by the ever-popular Gracie’s Corner edutainment platform.

While Wake n Bake started as a pandemic-era project, BeMo has been in the media game for a while, producing another podcast on Full Service Radio before COVID-19 hit.

Since Wake n’ Bake’s inception, the brand has grown immensely. It can be found on various streaming platforms and with accompanying videos. It’s even bolstered by an annual event called the Wake n’ Bake Fest, where participants smoke, talk among one another, enjoy live performances, learn the latest trends in cannabis culture, and practice early morning yoga.

In combining these elements, Wake n’ Bake accentuates The Bridge’s media catalog, including live media coverage, live talks, and more! Not bad for what BeMo calls “part inspiration, part news, part opinion, part affirmation, and a nicely rolled blunt first thing in the morning.”

“Four years ago, we started the show because we needed something to do in the pandemic. At that point, it was about Lady of the House and I jumping on Instagram Live to have this conversation. Now it’s intentional, and people are listening to us for a specific reason,” BeMo said.

“Now I have a whole set [with] a gallery of artists’ work,” he added. “We got sponsorships from community brands. We got light fuses and actual cameras. We have nine inputs and a checklist on how to distribute the show. It’s a real ecosystem rather than just entertaining people and screaming after smoking a blunt.”
