Morris American Bar’s second “Speak Softly” takeover at Washington D.C.’s iconic Union Station last Saturday, February 17, was truly a Braden family affair. As the headlining musical act, world-renowned saxophonist Don Braden and his 18-piece Big Band ensemble wowed the crowd with fresh takes on popular hits. Meanwhile, his daughter Nicole Braden skillfully orchestrated the lavish event as Director of Hospitality at Versus, the award-winning lifestyle brand behind Morris American Bar.

Exclusive speakeasy suites transported guests back to the glamorous Jazz Age, complete with aerialists and showgirls mingling with dapper suits and fringe dresses. The immersive experience unfolded amid Beaux-Art columns, featuring burlesque performances, a DJ spinning era-appropriate tunes, and craft cocktails from Morris American Bar.

Those who missed out on the exclusive event can still be transported back in time with a visit to Morris American Bar’s ornate downtown location at 1020 7th St NW. Their special February Old Fashioned cocktail spotlights Uncle Nearest Bourbon, a smooth small-batch spirit from a Black woman-owned distillery. Partial proceeds will benefit HBCUs throughout the month.

Swing by this pastel-pretty, Instagram-worthy bar to sip the oak-aged bourbon libation. Snap up a stool to admire the cocktail artistry, as mixologists muddle orange slices and cherries alongside the rich spirit. Let the sweet bourbon notes and heritage carry you away to the era of secret passwords and glamor.
