Color Radio: A Playlist Full of Color

Color Radio is the brainchild of Mitch, the creative mind behind Color University. What started as a hobby has become a legitimate platform with many subscribers. Mitch maintains many ties to the music industry in DC and beyond as a designer. He regularly curates dance parties throughout the city, such as Darling Nikki, Church on Sunday, and Oh Happy Day.

The playlist initially began as a way for Mitch to find inspiration when designing his clothing brand, Color University, which he based on school life, so everything ties into that “I feel like music and fashion go hand in hand… Music feeds into the lifestyle the same way that fashion does.” Therefore, the goal of Color Radio was to create a lifestyle aspect to align with the brand. “Color is a very expressive and diverse term that can represent the unity between all races and different forms of entertainment.” Color is the umbrella under which all his creative endeavors fall.

When formulating these playlists, Mitch often draws inspiration from things he is currently going through in his life. Something usually sparks him, whether it’s a specific incident or a vague feeling. “In a weird way, I usually find the most inspiration when going through a tough time, mental block or creative block… I usually find inspiration in those spaces.” Even though he would prefer not to get behind the turntables, he learns from the DJs at his parties. He arranges the songs very intentionally so that you will have a good time if you want to listen all the way through or just hit shuffle and vibe.

Mitch does the culture in DC; designer, curator, influencer, consultant, and creative director are all titles that wouldn’t do justice. “There is more color on the way.” Mitch has plenty in store for Fall and Spring, but the main objective is getting Color University into brick-and-mortar stores. Everything else will follow.
