Broccoli City Recap + Taraji P. Henson is Winning!

So, you know what time it is folks. It’s time for another good reading of all things DMV. Let’s start off with politics. Aye, guess what? DC is open. Take a look now at BridgeTV now and see why. The White House makes history with its first Black and Queer White House Press Secretary. Let’s give it up for the Black girl magic running through that house.

In general news, WMATA’s Board of Directors announced its next General Manager, Randy Clarke, from Austin, Texas. It’s a great time to be a teen. Teenagers can work out for free now at Planet Fitness locations in Montgomery County, MD. And, shoutout to our girl Trap Bob who did it again. She was asked to design for the National Gallery of Art. Let’s just say, she is winning!

In Sports, The Mystics are winning and living their best lives. Head to BridgeTV and see why and while you’re there. Chris Pyrate links with the Washington Wizards for a merch collection.

In entertainment, let’s start off with a huge congratulations to our girls Traci Jade and Taraji P. Henson on their two daytime Emmy nominations for the show “Peace of Mind with Taraji”. While on the subject of Taraji, she is also the host of BET Awards this year and I am kind of hyped. Y’all remember when Regina Hall shut it down? Can you imagine Taraji P Henson? BET loves the DMV I see. Speaking of Regina Hall, she was named one of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful People. An extended trailer for Love and Marriage DC starring Monique Samuels, DJ Quicksilva, and Jamie Tyler is out now. DMV’s own Cordae is coming to Europe. That’s actually pretty freaking epic.

Let’s end things off with what’s happening around town. As you might’ve seen, Wale brought out everyone during his set at the Broccoli City Festival. Lastly, for D.C. youth ages 15 – 18 years old, The Academy D.C. s offering free recording sessions on Mondays & Wednesdays at the Department of Youth Rehabilitation from 4:30 pm – 6 pm. Follow them now on Instagram @theacademydc for more details!
