The Washington Spirit, Washington, D.C.’s professional women’s soccer team, has announced a significant addition to its roster, but not on the field. DMV native Domo Wells joins the Spirit family as the team’s first-ever Creative Director and designer, bringing a wave of fresh energy and creativity to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise.
“We are thrilled to have Domo onboard. Her deep roots in the DMV, combined with her undeniable passion and creativity, are just what we need to elevate our brand to new heights,” said Theresa McDonnell, COO of the Washington Spirit. The team is buzzing with anticipation for the innovative ways Wells will help fans express their Spirit pride.
Wells’s first project in her new role is revitalizing the team’s core merchandise collection and launching a special Cherry Blossom capsule. This exclusive line will be released on March 23rd at the stadium and will be available online shortly after.
Wells reflected on her new position: “Joining the Washington Spirit is an incredible honor. I am excited to blend my passion for design with my love for my hometown and support the inspiring women of this dynamic organization.”
Previously, as Spotify’s Editorial Lead of Black Music and Culture, Wells was instrumental in building the Frequency franchise and pioneering the company’s first fashion show. Currently leading Dead Dirt, her brand and creative firm, Wells, promises to infuse the Washington Spirit with the same boldness and originality that define her work.
The Spirit will start the 2024 season with a home game against Bay FC on Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Audi Field in Buzzard Point. This match marks the beginning of a season that promises to be rich in creativity, excitement, and memorable moments. Tickets for the home opener and season memberships are available online.
