The upcoming art exhibition, “The Spirit of the West,” invites artists to contribute their works in honor of Black and Indigenous heritage. The event, curated by Quincy Swatson of Kofi Collections and presented by GOODProjects, will occur on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at The Penthouse at The Pierce School.
This exclusive exhibition aims to explore and celebrate the untold stories and contributions of Black and Indigenous communities to the American West. Through a diverse collection of artwork, the exhibition will showcase these groups’ resilience, creativity, and cultural significance, examining their identities within the context of ranching and Western traditions.
Featured artists include well-known names such as Wildcat Ebony Brown, Clarence James, and Justin Hardiman. The exhibition seeks to bridge historical and contemporary narratives, connecting figures like Nat Love and Mary Fields with modern icons of culture.
Commissioned by GOODProjects’ Black Justice Fund, the event is designed to highlight the diversity and excellence of Black and Indigenous cultures. Following the exhibition, selected works will be auctioned, offering attendees the chance to acquire pieces that reflect this rich cultural legacy.
Artists connected to the theme are encouraged to submit their works by August 23, 2024. Submissions should include up to five existing artworks and an artist statement. For details on the submission, visit the event’s official page.
