Washington D.C.-born and Los Angeles-based stand-up comic Martin Amini, known for his insightful humor on growing up with mixed Iranian and Bolivian heritage, has announced his latest comedy special, “I’m Transcending.” Revealed on YouTube on February 13, 2024, the special explores Amini’s upbringing in a culturally diverse, divorced household.
Adding a local touch to “I’m Transcending,” Tone P, a renowned artist hailing from the D.C. area, performed and produced the theme song. This collaboration underscores Amini’s commitment to celebrating local talent and his roots.
Amini first gained attention with his TV debut on TruTV’s “Laff Tracks” and further solidified his status with his 2020 special “Son of An Ice Cream Man” at The Kennedy Center. He has been recognized on Thrillist’s Best Undiscovered Stand-Up Comedian list and has opened for comedy giants like Trevor Noah, Jerrod Carmichael, and Hasan Minaj.
Taped in Washington, D.C., “I’m Transcending” was directed by Erik Griffin, with Amini, Matt Rife, and Christina Shams as executive producers. The special is a blend of humor and poignant storytelling, reflecting Amini’s experiences with his Iranian father and Bolivian mother.
In addition to his stand-up, Amini founded Room 808, a D.C. comedy club, and the Overachievers Comedy Show. Room 808 has featured performers like Rife and Trevor Wallace, showcasing a range of comedic styles.
