This February, the National Museum of African-American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., will host a unique culinary event for its Black History Month celebrations. Chef Tarik Frazier, a culinary artist known for his innovative and globally-influenced approach to food, is at the forefront of this event. Every Friday, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, extending into the weekends, the museum’s Sweet Home Café will feature special menu takeovers by select chefs from across the country. Among these talented individuals, Chef Frazier will curate and execute an exquisite menu that tells a story of heritage and culture through his dishes.

Chef Tarik Frazier, a Washington D.C. native, discovered his love for food and cooking during his youth. He pursued his passion at Johnson & Wales University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management with a minor in Hospitality and Beverage. Frazier’s professional journey is marked by a decade of experience in some of the most prestigious kitchens, including Michelin-star nominated restaurants, and managing food trucks and catering companies. He also gained significant recognition as an independent private chef.

In recent years, Chef Frazier has focused on plant-based cooking, co-founding “MUSH,” a plant-based mushroom restaurant, to express this commitment. His innovative venture, Mush Sandwich DC, located in Brentwood, MD, has garnered attention for its unique take on vegan meals. Using mushrooms as a meat alternative, the eatery offers a range of dishes, from vegan chicken sandwiches to a vegan steak-and-cheese, highlighting mushrooms’ versatility and health benefits.

As the executive chef and co-owner of Mush Sandwich DC, Frazier, along with his business partner Alex Hamilton, has pioneered in creating a menu that is not only indulgent but also a testament to their belief in sustainable and healthy food choices. Their journey from testing recipes and launching pop-ups to establishing a permanent spot in miXt Food Hall showcases their dedication and culinary ingenuity.

The upcoming event at the Sweet Home Café, featuring Chef Frazier, is a celebration not just of African American history and culture but also of the innovative spirit and culinary excellence that Frazier embodies. Details about the event and necessary timed-entry passes to the museum are available on the Sweet Home Café’s webpage for those interested. This gastronomic celebration promises to be a memorable experience, blending flavors, traditions, and the unique culinary narrative of Chef Tarik Frazier.
