In the heart of Petworth, a new and unique cultural haven known as Grandma’s House is making waves. Founded by multimedia artist and designer Reggie Black, this space promises to become a sanctuary for creative expression and a testament to Black wealth and home ownership in an area increasingly affected by gentrification.

Grandma’s House is more than just a venue; it’s an old-fashioned living room gathering among chosen family, a place for intergenerational narrative exchange, and a fellowship of artistic experiences rooted deeply in community. It reflects the spirit of Black’s late Grandmother, Molangee Guinyard, whose influence permeates through its walls.

This February, Grandma’s House is set to host its inaugural exhibition titled ‘At Home’ from February 16th to 18th, 2024. This collection, curated by Black and produced by Maggie Connolly, showcases the works of eight diverse artists: Wole Ajagbe, AB Corson, Holly Harris, Amari Hemmings, Michelle May-Curry, Stephen Miller, Obiekwe “Obi” Okolo, and Deidre Pulley.

‘At Home’ explores the intricate tapestry of home and family life, delving into themes of joy, loss, grief, identity, pain, and nostalgia. It aims to uncover a common healing thread, connecting the audience with the varying states of the human heart as it relates to the concept of home.

The exhibition schedule is as follows:

• February 16 (6:30 – 9:00 pm): Exclusive viewing for collectors, artists’ friends, and family. (RSVP required)
• February 17 (10:00 am – 7:00 pm): Open to the public in Petworth, Washington, DC. (RSVP required)
• February 18 (10:00 am – 5:00 pm): Final day of the exhibition, open to the public in Petworth, Washington, DC. (RSVP required)
