Cicadas Y’all Play Too Much and Southeast makes it to Annie on NBC

Let’s talk about how this week was full of greatness! The DMV is on fire. First up. This week marks the first anniversary of the Black Lives Matter Plaza mural, which is located on one of the nation’s most important streets. Centering the White House, it’s surrounded by all-important buildings, like the Washington Monument.

By now you realize, the summer no longer belongs to the city girls, the hot girls, or the city boys (yeah that’s a thing). Instead, it belongs to the cicadas. Recently, they’ve been taking over the country with their loud sounds and wildly blind flying. Well, there are so many of them now that they are now showing up on the weather radar!? So, expect to enjoy your summer plans outside with our new little friends.

Recording Artist and the DMV’s own, IDK, releases the album cover for his new album, U SEE 4 YOURSELF out July 9th. Just in time for Cancer Season. Speaking of IDK, he and a few other DMV Artists; Rico Nasty, Xanman, Wale, Black Fortune, and Yung Manny, are all featured performers on Rolling Loud NYC. I spoke on this last week, as three of the artists are featured in the Cali edition. But, to see six of our DMV music acts grace this stage is a huge feat again for our local music industry.

Let’s keep it going with more DMV artists. AnkhleJohn, who was featured on our music showcase, Sounds of The DMV, made it to yet another stage. This time he’s meeting with everyone’s favorite entrepreneur, Dame Dash, at the Dame Dash Studios.

From, ‘it’s hard out here for a pimp’, to, ‘It’s a hard knock life’, DC’s own Taraji P Henson will star as Miss Hannigan for NBC’s live musical of Annie. Aye Moe, Southeast is making it everywhere!

Are you hungry reading this? Well, our favorite DMV restaurant Roaming Rooster just launched a Breakfast Menu. Aye! Let’s eat!

In that’s love right there news, DMV’s own Made in The DMV, Shaughn Cooper, and Get Home Safe, have partnered up for the Hug a Homie Campaign. They’re dedicated to checking in on our friends, peers, and loved ones. But, it’s so much deeper than that. To find out more, head over to their Instagram pages and see how you to can join along. Mental health is key!

Did we all see Rap Cavier’s list of the Rap Mount Rushmore? Well, it has started quite the trend on social media. But, I think we can all agree ours is the most lit. With Pharrell, Missy, Wale & Pusha T included, we see Virginia is repping hard.

Keeping it on Pharrell, he is to open schools for low-income families in Virginia. That’s major and commendable. Find out more on his social media and website.

DMV’s own Mya lets us know her love is like ‘Whoa’ as she will be back on stage with a virtual experience coming soon, take a look on BridgeTV.

Ending out the week, an epic launch happened and is happening. I had the pleasure of being there for two of DMV’s greats, Celebrity DJ and Radio Personality, Jay Claxton, and Celebrity Publicist and Media Curator, Cass Vaughn. To see more head over to BridgeTV now!
