Are Ari Lennox & Rico Nasty leading the DMV?

Hello, beautiful people of the DMV! We are back with another week of all things D.C., Maryland,  and Virginia. Welcome to What’s Going on D.C.?

First up, let’s congratulate Keisha Thorpe of Maryland. The local teacher won the $1 Million Global Teacher Prize. She is only the second American to win the biggest teaching award in the world.

Recording artist Wale said it’s time for a Grammy. Did you see his consideration post on Instagram? The brother’s album has been receiving rave reviews. We think a Grammy would be well deserved.

Ari Lennox gets her first Billboard Hot 100 entry with collaboration via Summer Walker. This is another sign that our r&b sensation is a real star in the music industry. Another winning lady of the DMV, Rico Nasty, released her limited edition doll and let’s just say this is really freaking dope. Yet another win for ladies of the DMV music industry.

In other news, DC’s own Dave Chappelle is still under fire for his Netflix special. This time the fire is coming from DC students at Duke Ellington. Students at the premiere art high school canceled an upcoming fundraiser after students threatened to walk out. We hope they find a solution, as Dave Chappelle has brought a lot of aid to the school.

In sports, Chase Young of the Washington Football Team is out for the season with a torn ACL. On the flip side, the Washington Wizards clocked their best record in the eastern conference at 10-3.

Fat Trel and Lil Durk link and create a smash while DMV’s own Cordae lets us know how he really feels on Twitter.

Great news for the students of Howard University as they have reached a resolution after protesting for over a month. The agreement will meet the demands of the students and address the controversial living conditions. In Southeast D.C., a brand new Good Foods Market opens up in Ward 8. The market promises fresh food options and jobs for residents of Ward 7 & 8. We love to see it!

Let’s end it off the week with some encouraging words from our Southeast queen Taraji P. Henson. She’s giving exactly what we need during this trying week. Take a look now on BridgeTV.

Well, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. This sums up What’s Going On D.C.? Follow me @TheMediaPrince on everything and follow the hashtag #WGODC.
