Derek Antonio Floyd c.k.a. D.Floyd or Floydworld, is an American born rapper, writer, actor, and podcast host from the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. Floyd began recording and selling music on the street in his high school years and soonafter began to receive local radio play on popular stations like 93.9 WKYS and 95.5 WPGC. With major label interest – and regional success in nightclubs and mixtape circles – the next move was relocation.
In 2009, Floyd moved from the DMV area to College Park, Georgia. It was there that he would grow as a songwriter and music producer for local southern acts as well as international stars like TI, Pimp C, Scotty ATL, and Jacquees. Floyd was successful promoting acts like Boyz N Da Hood, Gorilla Zoe, Hoodrich Entertainment, Block Entertainment, and Bad Boy. It was with this experience under his belt that Floyd shifted his focus back home.
Upon his return, D.Floyd continued to release singles and mixtapes including the internationally acclaimed, “ Love Money Drugs ” projects. In 2013, Floyd established, 3rdEye 360 LLC, to assist artists, brands, and entrepreneurs in business, development, and consultation. It was also at SXSW in 2017 that Floyd introduced that his newest musical project, C.R.O.W.N : Can’t Rely On Weak N*ggas, was in development. In 2018, after 2 years of recording in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, C.R.O.W.N, was released on all major platforms as Floyd’s first independent full-length album. The release was met with great reviews, strong sales and streams.
On June 18, 2018, Floyd 1:18 Radio officially hit airwaves and podcast platforms all over the world. With guests ranging from social media personalities, athletes, and artists to politicians and activists, Floyd 1:18 catapulted to success. In under a year, it became one of the most sought after east coast shows on both live radio and podcasts.
In addition to entertainment, D.Floyd has spent years dedicated to the development of black youth, and the reduction in poverty and crime alongside mental health advocacy for returning citizens. In 2018, Floyd streamlined his efforts with Crownz4Kidz, a youth mentoring group, created and housed in Ward 8 of Washington DC. The program entertains, educates, feeds, and counsels children ranging between the ages of 5-18. The programs focus on accountability, conflict resolution, communication, and additional life skills.
In 2019, Floyd returned with more music with the release of his 4-track EP, “ Legacy. “ With standout singles like, “ 4 Tha Night “ featuring Krown Vic and the title song featuring Säk The Rapper and R.U.D.E, “Legacy”, the EP was celebrated by media and fans worldwide. In 2020, D.Floyd, began production on new music with producers Dilly GotItBumpin, Bvtman, Flippstaxx and more. In December he released the lead single from his latest EP, “Pinot Noir”. The five track EP, “Goat SZN” was released on January 18th, 2021 to critical acclaim and widespread reception.
