In fusing sport and streetwear, Major League Soccer (MLS) released a limited-edition All-Star capsule collection, partnering with local brands SOMEWHERE® and WJW. The collaboration aligns with MLS’ All-Star celebrations, aimed at amplifying Washington, D.C.’s distinctive style and culture on a national stage.

The collaboration couldn’t have been more authentic, with both brands having deep roots in the D.C. area. D.C. brand SOMEWHERE® has designed a collection that encapsulates the local streetwear scene, with pieces like t-shirts, bucket hats, tote bags, boot/travel bags, and a premium 3D woven scarf made in collaboration with Dutch textile company, ByBorre.

Dominick Adams, co-owner and founder of SOMEWHERE®, expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “This is a dream come true because I could literally see my old apartment from the stadium.”

Thanks to the involvement of Georgetown alumni and MLS Consumer Products Marketing Manager, Zachary Moore, SOMEWHERE® and WJW were granted creative liberty to target both the core national MLS audience and the unique D.C. community. The brands exceeded expectations by encapsulating the local flavor in their designs. “This is amazing because many times local brands don’t get visibility through collabs like this,” Adams shared, speaking to the community-centric thinking of MLS’s leadership.

The collection also includes pieces from WJW, created by Korean-American creative director Jung Woo. The Maryland-born, now LA-based, brand has created a collection that includes t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, sweatpants, socks, hats, and even a soccer ball keychain.

“Being able to collaborate with MLS is a dream come true for me,” said Jung Woo, founder of WJW. “My dream was to be a professional soccer player, but now with this collab, I can say I got there, one way or the other.”

The collections dropped on July 15 at a special pop-up inside SOMEWHERE’s Navy Yard retail store and went online via the respective brands’ websites. A portion of the collection was also made available at Audi Field during the 2023 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge and MLS All-Star Game.

The collaboration was particularly notable because it shined a spotlight on local talent while presenting a golden opportunity for homegrown brands to gain visibility through such a high-profile collaboration. This fusion of sports and fashion continues to excite fans and fashion enthusiasts, presenting a unique opportunity to sport their love for MLS in style.
